Every two years the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), creates a list of “Outstanding Books for Young People will Disabilities” from around the world, to be featured in a catalogue and travelling exhibition.
Three titles from Canada were chosen for the 2019 list…including Caterpillars Can’t Swim! So incredibly proud to find my work on this important listing created “to give young people with disabilities, like other children, the opportunity to enjoy books and also open the way for their inclusion in society.” Here’s what they had to say…”This novel, written by a former special education teacher, offers a positive portrayal of male friendship. Both characters behave in ways that are realistic: they say the wrong things, they hurt each other, but they also learn and try to do better the next time. Ryan’s disability is a well integrated part of his fully-realized character.”
